About BAMBOO

  • Bamboo's Moisture Control absorbs and evaporates perspiration in a split second so it doesn't stick to the skin. Its extraordinary natural breathability keeps you comfortable and dry for longer.   Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world, mainly because it has extraordinary water absorbency which helps it to grow fast. Bamboo fabric retains this remarkable property.  It is 3-4 times more absorbent than cotton so it wicks away moisture from the skin which then evaporates, keeping you - naturally - drier and more comfortable. When combined with it's temperature control qualities, you have an incredibly technical garment without the addition of chemicals or the technology.
  • Climate Control: bamboo fabric is highly breathable in hot weather but also keeps you warmer in the cool weather keeping you more comfortable in all temperatures.   Being highly breathable, in the heat, bamboo is naturally cool, by keeping you dry. The cross-section of the bamboo fiber is filled with various micro-gaps and micro-holes.  At a microscopic level, bamboo fiber has a round surface. Because of this, it is very smooth and sits perfectly next to the skin. It has much better moisture absorption and ventilation. It is also warm in cold weather, because of the same micro structure; as a base layer, warm air gets trapped next to the skin.

  • Bamboo  is antibacterial, forever. By killing almost all bacteria, bamboo stays fresher and odour free for longer, is more hygienic and healthier.  Bamboo is antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-static. In the wild, bamboo thrives naturally without using any pesticides or fertilizers. It is seldom eaten by pests or infected by pathogens.  Scientists found that bamboo owns a unique antibacterial and bacteriostasis bio-agent named "bamboo kun". This substance bonds tightly with bamboo cellulose molecules during the normal process of bamboo fiber growth.  This natural feature is retained in fabric form.  Tests by the Japanese Textile Inspection Association found that, even after fifty times of washing, bamboo fabric still possessed these functions.  Bamboo clothing's natural antibacterial function differs significantly from that of man-made chemical anti microbial fabrics.  Organically grown clothing made from bamboo has natural anti-bacterial functions, bacteriostasis and deodorization value.  It's test results shows over 70% death rate after bacteria was incubated on bamboo fiber fabric.
  • Bamboo clothing is also anti static, so it sits very well next to your skin, not clinging to it. It is also UV protective (it cuts out 98% of harmful UV rays) and anti fungal, so it's just better, whether it's on you in the Alps or stuffed at the bottom of your bag for days on end
  • Bamboo Strength - bamboo is incredibly strong, lasting longer than other fibers.  The strength of bamboo can be illustrated by it's use in scaffolding in Hong Kong.  This strength works for you to save you money, since it lasts longer, garments you buy do not have to be replaced  as often.  It also stays cleaner and resists staining more than cotton.  In an interesting dichotomy, bamboo is also one of the softest fibers.  Often referred to as "Bamboo Cashmere", bamboo is extremely soft and comfortable.  When used in clothing it is actually blended with cotton and other fibers to give it a more substantial hand.  Other properties for bamboo include  high UV protection (rated as high as 98% blockage of harmful UV rays).  All these features are coming without the need of chemicals and because of that many people who find fabrics irritating have found bamboo to be quite comfortable.
  • Good for the planet:  Bamboo is a grass that grows naturally without pesticides or fertilizers so growing bamboo does not add chemicals to the environment.  It grows well on hill sides (stabilizing the soil) and can grow to 75 feet in just 45 - 60 days.  It can mature and be harvested  in as little as 3 - 4  years.  Yields from bamboo can be as much as 10 times higher than cotton for the same acreage.  Bamboo is a luxuriously soft premium fabric which will last a long time thereby reducing the necessity for garment replacement and thereby reducing our carbon footprint.  It is easy care with no need for dry cleaning also reducing the necessity for harmful chemicals.
